Reserve Readings GuidelinesThis is a featured page

Reserve Books
The purpose of reserves is to make required readings available to students in an equitable manner. There are closed reserves and open reserves.

Closed reserves is when the item is taken out of the general collection and placed in a separate collection behind the circulation desk. The purpose of this is to keep additional control over the item. The books are not available in their normal places on the library shelves. There is only a finite amount of space available for closed reserves, and many instructors need to place their own materials in reservce, so please keep these materials to a minimum.

Open reserves is when the item cannot be taken out of the library and is not for circulation. The books are in their normal places on the library shelves.

Do not forget to mention the option of making a recall. When an item is checked out, students can place a hold on it and/or make a recall for a book. (A recall is when a book has been checked out more than once by a person and the library requests them to bring it back).
